The meeting on “Improving the state secrecy legislation” was held in Ulaanbaatar
The meeting “Improving the state secrecy legislation” was held on July 3rd at the National legal institute in Ulaanbaatar by the General Intelligence Agency of Mongolia which is responsible of implementing and regulating the secrecy legislation nation-wide. This meeting was held in order to improve and accommodate the State secrecy law and other relevant legislation in compliance with the principles of the open society.
More than 60 senior officials and security clerks from various government and non government organizations attended at the meeting. They discussed the reports on the use of state secrets and problems of its protection and exchanged ideas on possible amendments of the law.
Last 14 years since the State secrecy law has been passed, the interests and demands of the people for the information about the national policy and activities of the state has increased significantly. In relation to this, the responsibility of the state to ensure the freedom of information of its citizens and provide them with the necessary information has been growing. On the contrary, the process of declassification of documents is complicated and does not meet the principles of the open society. |
